Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, City of Portland - Senior Communications Strategist (Coordinator II) - (JANUARY 2023 - PRESENT)

  • Oversees the design and production of compelling materials including print collateral, media releases, reports, e-newsletters, online content, and interactive engagement tools. The Senior Communication Strategist will work closely with the BPS Communications Team in support of the Office of Community Technology’s (OCT) communications needs. A critical function of the OCT  Senior Communication Strategist is that of storytelling. The Senior Communication Strategist has the essential role of sourcing emergent examples of community work and using it to illustrate the impact of OCT. Working closely with OCT staff and the BPS Communications teams, the Senior Communication Strategist will also organize and execute the communications planning, marketing, materials production, and media relations activities with discretion and awareness of intergovernmental and community issues. Serves as back up to the BPS Communications Manager for team, bureau, and citywide meetings. Provides recommendations on strategy regarding internal and external public-relations and communications needs with an equity, community, and political lens.

Office of Commissioner Rubio, City of Portland - Community Engagement & Communications Coordinator - (FEBRUARY 2021 - JANUARY 2023)

  • Office lead for Community Engagement, managing the Commissioner’s public facing email while also creating a strategic plan for proactive community networking, with a focus on elevating and empowering marginalized communities in our city. Works with Communications Director and Chief of Staff to build weekly communications plans around the Commissioner’s schedule. Responsible for helping write remarks for the Commissioner with a lens for equity and inclusion, as well as community reception. Acts as a supervisor for two office interns. 

Office of Commissioner Meieran, Multnomah County - Constituent Relations & Communications Manager - (JUNE 2018 - FEBRUARY 2021)

  • Worked with office leadership to triage all of Commissioner Meieran’s external constituent correspondence on behalf of the Commissioner, while also overseeing and maintaining the Commissioner’s calendar. Advised Commissioner and staff on external communications with a specific lens for diversity, equity and inclusion. Served as office liaison to county Employees of Color leadership in order to build more honest and transparent communication between the employee resource group and county leadership. Also acted as office representative and lead for Multnomah County Work Force Equity Strategic Plan. Worked to utilize community contacts to broaden Commissioner Meieran’s reach and vision for equity, particularly around community and mental health. Took various equity and inclusion trainings through Multnomah County. 

Older Brother US, Portland, OR - Project Planning and Management Intern - (MAY 2017 - SEPTEMBER 2017)

  • Assisted brand co-founder to bring various projects to life through collaboration. Responsible for developing photoshoot themes and for drafting storybooks and moodboards and styling, with an eye for diversity and inclusion in order to expand the brand’s reach. Worked to show co-founder connections between sustainability and race, equity and inclusion that could strengthen the brand’s messaging and goals. Simultaneously worked to expand and diversify model base and social media content. Assisted in planning, coordination and execution of Fall Fashion Week Pop Up Shop in New York City, September 2017.

Office of Governor Kate Brown, State of Oregon - Communications Intern - (MAY 2016 - AUGUST 2016)

  • Oversaw all support communication needs for Governor: generated her official remarks, memos and project progress updates. Highlighted most by remarks crafted for Umpqua Community College focused on community, strength and resilience. Managed social media accounts and provided digital strategy, including proposing and implementing the Governor’s Instagram account. Staffed the Governor at various events.

Future Leaders in Action, New York, NY - Project Planning and Management Intern - (MAY 2015 - AUGUST 2015)

  • Worked to establish new relationships with New York nonprofits, focusing in equity, to expand the organizations reach. Established processes for and drafted program proposals before presenting to various non-profit executive directors and leadership. Organized logistics for and produced inaugural FLIA summer conference in Park City, Utah (Summer 2015). Maintained internal operations and communications with fellows in Portland, Utah, Idaho and California with dailey check check ins and reports. Maintained the website, while also creating and managing blog content.

UPD Consulting, Baltimore, MD - Communications Intern - (MAY 2014 - AUGUST 2014)

  • Developed and implemented social media strategies for the black owned and operated, education reform-based consulting firm. Collaborated directly with lead designer to conceive new resume template. Designed a new resume template and implemented it across all past and present consultants’ resumes; revising content to reflect latest work. Collaborated on internal communications strategies with Comms Director, focusing on streamlining project updates.
